House Mitchell Hermanus

Created as a holiday home for their extended family (spanning three generations), House Mitchell borders, the Fernkloof Nature Reserve in Hermanus. A consistent less is more aesthetic throughout provides a backdrop for the verdant scenery. The family has focused on high quality, low maintenance finishes, all floors are sealed brick, Pure cotton white bed linens & towels, Stainless steel appliances and matt Black Forman Brand Aluminium products with laminated safety glass.

The original building was remodeled to include accommodation for the entire extended family. The C shape, has all (sliding) aluminium doors, opening to the lush garden and pool areas. On entering the front door opens to a comfortable open plan shared space, which houses a lounging area, dining areas, a family kitchen and scullery. Shelves hold board games, bottles of wine and a massive fireplace is well stocked with wood for colder days. Large scale Aluminium windows and doors in the living area frame views of the Fernkloof nature reserve.

Three family pods, each comprise a bunk room, double bedroom, bathroom and basic kitchenette. A larger self contained grandparents suite, has an open plan bedroom/ lounge, plus kitchenette and bathroom. A separate recreation space has been created for the younger generation. Behind the house is a utility and laundry area.

Forman Brand Aluminium systems with a matt black finish were used on the entire project, FORMAN 2a, FORMAN F8 & FORMAN F10 systems all with Laminated safety glass, were custom configured for each opening.
