Against the backdrop of the most magnificent Franschhoek mountain range, our client was rebuilding a very large estate house in the Paarl Valley. “The 270-degree views paved the ideas in creating spaces where the interior and exterior are in harmony and can also happily function on its own” (Magmari Oliver).
The “piece de resistance” came as a late addition to the job. On the Southern elevation of the house Larry of Metal Windows designed, manufactured and installed a striking large bi-pitched glass and steel roof over a 50m2 grand entrance hall. Supported on an exposed steel I beam acting as the ridge of the roof, this space, is light and welcoming, feeding light into the interior of the entertainment spaces. The roof design includes built-in structural gutters, all designed and built by Metal Windows, using our exclusive Forman Brand systems.
The Tuscan villa was transformed into a modern entertaining family home, with all finishes and elements uncluttered and true to the design. This was achieved by the repetitive use of black & white, Wooden flooring and finishes with matt black Steel Forman Brand window & door frames completing the aesthetic.
The Forman Brand F7 Slimline steel window and door systems, in matt black from Metal Windows offered stark framing of the beautiful Paarl winelands views while providing security, sun control and low maintenance. The slimline steel profile ratio to larger glass panes maximizes views and compliments the contemporary aesthetic of the house design. All of the glass is Solarvue neutral HL which provides an excellent balance between thermal performance and sound attenuation at a reasonable cost. Both important considerations for this client especially considering the massive scale of most of the windows and doors.
The types of steel products that were designed, manufactured and installed in the project by Metal Windows included top-hung windows in unconventional configurations, some down to floor level, horizontal sliders in triple sliding configurations, hinged doors with sidelights and sliding doors in massive panel sizes. Engineering specially adapted to these panels allows for nearly effortless sliding of the panels.
