WINELANDS ESTATE STEEL WINDOWS AND DOORS, PAARL VALLEY
Against the backdrop of the most magnificent Franschhoek mountain range, our client was rebuilding a very large estate house in the Paarl Valley. “The 270-degree views paved the ideas in creating spaces where the interior and exterior is in harmony and can also happily function on its own” (Magmari Oliver interior designer & project manager ).
“The rebuild was extensive with major structural changes and additions. The architectural intent was to retain the Tuscan villa look and feel, appropriate for the estate, but to improve the spatial and flow dynamics to create a true entertainer’s home”. (Larry Forman Metal Windows)
The Forman Brand F7 Slimline steel window and door system from Metal Windows offered stark framing of the beautiful Paarl winelands views while providing security, sun control and longevity. Finished in a matt black colour the system really compliments the overall aesthetic of the final product.
The “piece de resistance” came as a late addition to the job a striking large bi-pitched glass and steel roof over a 50m2 grand entrance hall. On the Southern elevation of the house Larry of Metal Windows designed, manufactured and installed the Supported on exposed steel I beam acting as the ridge of the roof, this space, is light and welcoming, feeding light into the interior of the entertainment spaces. The roof design includes built-in structural gutters, all designed and built by Metal Windows, using our exclusive Forman Brand systems.
All steel products are Forman Brand, designed, manufactured and installed in the project by Metal Windows. Systems included top-hung windows in unconventional configurations, some down to floor level, horizontal sliders in triple sliding configurations, hinged doors with sidelights and sliding doors in massive panel sizes, all custom-made.
Special design detailing was applied to the sliding door thresholds which are flush with the internal floor level and have an extremely low profile, engineering specially adapted to allow for nearly effortless sliding of the panels. All of the glass is thermally protected which provides an excellent balance between thermal performance and sound attenuation at a reasonable cost. Both are important considerations for this client especially considering the massive scale of most of the windows and doors.

The Tuscan villa was transformed into a modern entertaining family home, keeping all finishes and elements uncluttered and true to the design. This was achieved by the repetitive use of the same colors, black and white. Wooden flooring and finishes with black fittings completed the picture. No design is concluded without a conversation piece. A beautiful Ferrari red door was included as an accent, greeting you as you enter under a star-lit or sunny sky glass roof. The story of creating a balance between a modern luxury house, an entertainer’s dream and a family home.
