House Forman
This 1947 Sea Point home was originally a single storey with two small bedrooms and a very tiny lounge/ dining room. The Family of six, were happy with the location and the footprint of the home, but, needed additional space. Most interior walls were knocked out on the ground floor level. The bedrooms, dining & lounge became an open plan – kitchen/ lounge/ dining room. In the lounge area a small window was removed, plus the brickwork below and a hinged, doubledoors with side lights installed – transitional living at its best. The small pokey windows throughout were replaced with large scale Charcoal Aluminium Windows and doors, perfect for the 4m high ceilings creating an illusion of a very large space & maximizing natural light. design
The brief was to to let in as much light and ventilation as possible, while maintaining privacy. The main bedroom and bathroom are open plan and inter-leading. A small toilet tucked away into the space has a long narrow vertical window with top hung opening panes for ventilation. The bathroom windows are coated with a sand blast film to allow privacy . There is a long narrow horizontal window, with top hung openings above the (Main) Bed with a bamboo blind set in to the recess.
As part of the renovation a wood framed second storey was added which includes 4 bedrooms. One of the bedrooms was tucked into the nook of the original roof line an opportunity to create a reading space. We installed a tiny window to allow light and ventilation.
The interior of the home is spacious & open plan, it provides a backdrop for the family’s eclectic collection of Art and Photography, curated by the owners. The upstairs Aluminium windows are framed in wood which has been stained to match the wooden floors and trims installed upstairs. In addition for security, steel burglar bars (powder coated in the matching Charcoal) were installed directly into and through both the wooden and Aluminium frames.
