Conceived by architect Simon Mountford (Kube Architecture) as an industrial looking building and detailed, in construction in the same method as a fruit pack house. The key element in the design language is integrity of materials. Brick, concrete, steel and glass. Thus, the steel frame of the structure and the steel windows and doors downstairs are exposed and hand painted.

In this Constantia family home we were requested to design an addition to enclose the open patio creating a sun room leading off the living room and kitchen. The client wanted a powder coated aluminium finish but, with a slim line “steel look”.

Leeu Estates is the latest luxury hotel to open in Franschoek, the gourmet capital of South Africa’s Cape Winelands. It is part of the Leeu Collection owned by Analjit Singh, an international investor of Indian origin. An interesting point: – The Afrikaans word Leeu means Lion and is the Sanskrit derivation of “Singh” .

Built in 1904 as the North Quay Warehouse and converted in 1990 to a luxury hotel, it is one of the oldest buildings in the Waterfront. The hotel is named in honour of the Queen of England and her son. Prince Alfred who visited the Cape in 1870 and officially opened the Breakwater basin, today’s Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.
